The emblem of the Society is a butterfly in flight.

The butterfly is an iconic symbol of liberation, renewal and transformational change.

The emblem therefore, exemplifies JEWEL’s mission of promoting the empowerment of women and children in Johor, so that society as a whole may prosper, and all can aspire to be the best that they can be.

The JEWEL emblem is made up of seven colours, these being the colours of the rainbow spectrum. In eastern tradition, these colours are associated with values which the Society holds in high regard.

The central feminine figure in violet symbolizes the humanitarian focus of the Society.

The JEWEL Emblem was designed by JEWEL’s inaugural Vice President, Her Highness Gusti Raden Ayu Retno Astrini Mangkoenegoro VIII (fondly known as Puteri).

Its seven-colour scheme was proposed by Thanaletchumi Selvarajah. The emblem’s meaning was interpreted and written into text by JEWEL’s inaugural President Thanam Visvanathan-Suresh, based on research by Hartdeep Kaur and feedback from Sue Divine, all of whom were Founder Members.

The JEWEL Emblem was formally adopted by the Johor Women’s League in April 2009.
